Detach rear lower engine compartment paneling

Only on model 639.7/8 as of vehicle identification number (VIN) 055347

Detach right link rod from anti-sway bar

Remove right heat shield

Only on model 639 as of VIN 374085 with engine 272 or on model 639 as of VIN 437437 with engine 642

Remove left heat shield

Only on model 639 as of VIN 374085 up to 545238 with engine 272

Detach clamping bow (2) on left and right

 If necessary bend heat shield slightly to one side.

Detach stabilizer bar mount (3) on left and right of stabilizer bar



Check

Check stabilizer bar for wear and damage

 If the stabilizer bar shows significant galling caused by the stabilizer bar mount (3), replace stabilizer bar:



Remove/install front stabilizer bar

Slide new boots (6) onto the stabilizer bar

 For this, clean the stabilizer bar in the working area beforehand and install boots (6) to the left. Observe installation position of boots (6).

Install stabilizer bearing (3) on left and right of stabilizer bar

Position new right heat shield bracket (5)

Position new left heat shield bracket (5)

 Observe installation position.

Pull new boots (6) over the raised bead of the stabilizer bar mount (3)

 Check boots (6) for correct seating on the stabilizer bar mount (3).

Install clamping bow (2) on left and right

 If necessary press heat shield to one side on underfloor. The clamping bows (2) on the left and right should be replaced on model 639 as of VIN 374085 with engine 272 or on model 639 as of VIN 437437 with engine 642.


