Location
The 48 V on-board electrical system battery together with the DC/DC converter control unit is located as a power pack in either the engine compartment or the vehicle interior depending on the vehicle model and equipment involved.
Task
The 48 V on-board electrical system battery is responsible for the following tasks:
Power supply of 48 V on-board electrical system
Energy intake and energy output
Monitoring and provision of evaluation criteria (voltage, current, battery temperature)
Provision of coolant temperature in battery cooling circuit
Supply of 12 V on-board electrical system and DC/DC converter control unit after detected crash ("post-crash supply")
Electronics are integrated into the 48 V on-board electrical system battery that continuously send information about the battery status to the DC/DC converter control unit.
To ensure that the performance of the 48 V on-board electrical system is excellent in all the operating ranges, the 48 V on-board electrical system battery is heated at low temperatures or cooled with water at high outside temperatures.
Structure
The 48 V on-board electrical system battery consists of a battery management system, the cells, a heat sink and various structure and joining technologies.
