According to the movement of the gearshift lever (driver's specification), the hydraulic gear shift cylinder (6) converts the hydraulic pressure and fluid stream into the required mechanical force and movement at the transmission shift shaft.

The hydraulic gear shift cylinder (6) rotates (forwards or backwards) the shift shaft in the transmission in both directions in order to engage a gear.

The hydraulic component (A) of the hydraulic gear shift cylinder (6) contains a storage unit which produces a smoother and softer gearchange sequence in the transmission. When shifting, the pressure difference in the shift circuit of the pistons presses the storage unit against a spring.

If the transmission now is now shifted through all gears (less force is required after the synchronization sequence), the spring relaxes and the tug of the gearchange is not transmitted to the shift control unit.

The pneumatic component (B) also enhances the shifting force and is actuated by compressed air via two 3/2-way solenoid valves, shift force assistance solenoid valve 1 (Y68) and shift force assistance solenoid valve 2 (Y69).

These receive their electric signals from the shift force assistance control unit.
