Notes on repairing the stationary heater | Typ 163.128
Warning | Risk of injury to skin and eyes suffering scalding from contact with hot coolantspray. Risk of poisoning from swallowing coolant. | Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90 °C. Open cap slowly and release the pressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers.
1 | Release pressure in coolant circuit | To do so, turn cap of coolant expansion reservoir to detent position 1.
2 | Remove engine cover | ||
3 | Remove air filter | With air filter cross pipe.
4 | Unscrew thermostat valve (40) from M6 spacer nut on shield (50)
5 | Unscrew ground line (100) from holder on shield (50)
6 | Unscrew auxiliary coolant pump (M13) from holder on shield (50)
7 | Connect no-load current retention unit | Do not connect no-load current retention unit
8 | Remove battery with shield (50)
9 | Clamp off coolant feed and coolant return hose (4, 3) | Clamp
10 | Disconnect fuel line (7) from heater (A6) | Collect escaping fuel.
11 | Disconnect coolant outlet hose (3) and coolant feed line (4) from heater (A6) | Collect escaping coolant in a clean vessel and, after installation, pour back into coolant expansion reservoir.
12 | Loosen pipe clamp on exhaust nozzle of heater (A6) and detach exhaust gas line (14c) with heat protection hose (e) | Installation: Check heat protection hose (e) for damage and replace if necessary.
13 | Disconnect combustion air intake hose (12) from heater (A6)
14 | Pull off foam cover (11b) over the two screws on right side of holder (11) and remove screws from heater (A6) | Carefully detach foam cover (11b).
Bolt, bracket to heater
15 | Unscrew all three screws on left side of holder (11) from heater (A6) | Support heater (A6).
Bolt, bracket to heater
16 | Guide heater (A6) out in upward direction and, when doing so, detach couplings (9, 10) of electrical connection lines | The holder remains in the vehicle.
17 | Install in the reverse order
18 | Bleed coolant circuit after installation of heater
Check | |||
19 | Check fuse assignment
| Fuse assignment of fuse and relay box in left engine compartment | ||
Danger | Risk of explosion caused by fuel vapors igniting, risk of poisoning caused by inhaling combustible gases and risk of injury caused by burns during and after operation of heater unit | Do not operate stationary heater, auxiliary heater or engine with heater booster in closed rooms or when refueling. Allow heater unit to cool down after operation and wear protective gloves.
20 | Commission stationary heater
| Start up stationary heater | ||
If the heater (A6) switches off automatically before reaching its operating temperature and cannot be restarted,
a fault interlock exists:
| |||
Override malfunction interlock
21 | Check cooling system for leaktightness |
