1

Drill rivet (3) on tie-down rail to be removed

2

Heat center tie-down rail (1) and top tie-down rail (2) with heat gun

Hold heat gun directly on center tie-down rail (1) or top tie-down rail (2).
Do not heat paint and side wall paneling excessively.

3

Pry out center tie-down rail (1) on belt rail or top tie-down rail (2) on roof frame

For this purpose drive wedge between center tie-down rail (1) and belt rail or top tie-down rail (2) and roof frame. Readjust wedge continuously to maintain tension.

4

Remove remaining adhesive

Avoid paint damage and dents on paneling.

5

Repair paint damage

Use only primers and paints approved by Daimler AG: https://portal.aftersales.i.daimler.com

Install

Danger !

Risk of poisoning caused by inhaling vapors or swallowing adhesive. Risk of injury caused by adhesive coming into contact with skin and eyes

Wear respiratory protection, protective gloves and safety glasses. Pour adhesive into suitable and appropriately marked containers only.

6

Fit new center tie-down rail (1) or top tie-down rail (2) to belt rail or roof frame

If possible, transfer present hole groups in side wall when fitting tie-down rail.

7

Transfer holes of center tie-down rail (1) or top tie-down rail (2) to belt rail or roof frame, drill and deburr

Only if holes are not yet present in side wall.

8

Roughen bonding surfaces (crosshatched area) at rear of center tie-down rail (1) or top tie-down rail (2)

9

Immediately apply primer to roughened bonding surfaces (crosshatched area)

Immediately after applying primer wipe off primer not yet evaporated using lint-free cloth.

10

Allow primer to air-dry

Flash-off time min. 10 minutes and maximum 24 hours before applying adhesive. If the adhesive is applied after 24 hours, previously apply primer to bonding surface.

11

Apply adhesive (4) to center tie-down rail (1) or top tie-down rail (2)

If the time for applying the adhesive (when installing a number of tie-down rails) is longer than 15 min., use a new mixture as soon as the adhesive shows the first signs of hardening.
Otherwise the adhesive force of the glue can be impaired.

Adhesive bead diameter approx. 6 mm. Interrupt adhesive bead for approx. 1 cm at the rivet holes to prevent adhesive pinching in the visible area.
Apply adhesive to center tie-down rail (1) centered on holes.
Apply adhesive to top tie-down rail (2) below holes.

12

Moisten adhesive bead with water

Apply only fine spraying fog.

13

Install center tie-down rail (1) or top tie-down rail (2) and rivet

The maximum joining time after applying the adhesive to the tie-down rail is 5 minutes.
The tie-down rail achieves its maximum load bearing capacity after the adhesive has cured for approx. 7 days.
