Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off the lifting platform.

Align vehicle between columns of lifting platform and position the four support plates at lifting platform support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.

Unclip and separate connector for left O2 sensor upstream of the catalytic converter (G3/3x1) and / or connector of the right O2 sensor upstream of the catalytic converter (G3/4x1) from the retaining spring

 The retaining springs are located at the backside of the charge air cooler (1).

Remove rear part of engine compartment paneling

Unclip and separate the connector of the left O2 sensor downstream of the catalytic converter (G3/5x1) and / or the connector of the right O2 sensor downstream of the catalytic converter (G3/6x1) from the retaining spring

 Unclip electrical feed lines from the clamping brackets.

Detach catalytic converters (4) at the turbochargers by loosening the bolts (5) and taking off the hose clamp (6)

 Installation: Clean the combustion and corrosion residues from the connection points; replace the hose clamp (6) and bolts (5).



Detach catalytic converters (4) from the catalytic converter bracket (7) by unscrewing the bolts (8)



Support front exhaust system (9)

Loosen nut (10) for hose clamps (11)

 Do not remove nuts at the hose clamps (11) completely. Loosen them only until the hose clamps (11) can be pushed away over the exhaust pipe.

Installation: Use emery cloth to clean combustion and corrosion residues at the connection points.



Remove bolts (12) of the tunnel reinforcement (13)



Unhook front exhaust system (9) from the exhaust rubber mount

 To simplify removal:

Apply liquid lubricant to retaining bracket (14) and in bore of the exhaust rubber mount (15).

 Check exhaust rubber mount (15), replace if damaged.

Lower front exhaust system (9) and remove it

 Do not damage O2 sensors while removing!

Install in the reverse order

Check installation position and clearance of exhaust system

 The exhaust system must be installed free of stress, if necessary:

Align exhaust system.

 Danger!

Risk of accident caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running

Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Carry out engine test run

 Inspect exhaust system for leaks.



Remove O2 left sensor upstream of the catalytic converter (G3/3) and O2 left sensor downstream of the catalytic converter (G3/5) or O2 right sensor upstream of the catalytic converter (G3/4) and O2 right sensor downstream of the catalytic converter (G3/6) from the respective catalytic converter (4)

When replacing the catalytic converters (4)



Screw O2 left sensor upstream of the catalytic converter (G3/3) and O2 left sensor downstream of the catalytic converter (G3/5) or O2 right sensor upstream of the catalytic converter (G3/4) and O2 right sensor downstream of the catalytic converter (G3/6) into the respective catalytic converter (4)

When replacing catalytic converters (4)

 Installation: Coat thread of O2 sensors with heat-resistant lubricant.
