Remove/install

Remove lower engine compartment lining.

Remove respective ball head (2).

Remove counternut from tie rod.

Remove inner clamp (4).

 Commercially available devices/tools
Assembly pliers for clamps

 Installation: Install new inner clamp (4).

Remove outer clamp (3).

 Hose clamp pliers

Remove boot (1).

 Installation: Clean contact surfaces of boot (1) on tie rod and at steering gear and coat lightly with lubricant.
Check boot (1) for damage.

If corresponding findings are present,



Replace boot (1).



Depressurize hydraulic system completely before starting any work on it. Wear protective clothing and safety glasses.

Check toothed rack for corrosion and the steering gear for leak tightness.

Check axial joint of tie rod for play.

If corresponding findings are present,



Replace tie rod with axial joint.
