Warning | Risk of injury caused by pinching or crushing when working on springs or spring bodies that are under tension | Use only approved tensioning devices; additionally screen off hazardous area if necessary. Check special tools for damage and proper operation (visual inspection). Wear protective gloves.
1 | Slightly compress the cover (9) of the membrane cylinder | Use a press or suitable device.
Mark the mounting position of the cover (9) and of the fastening strap (12) on the cylinder (5) so that these can later be assembled in the same positions.
Holding device | |||
2 | Loosen the nut (10) and remove the screw (11) and the fastening strap (12)
3 | Remove the cover (9) and the diaphragm (8) | Release the press pressure.
4 | Fasten the piston (7) to a vise and loosen the forked rod (3) a few turns | Knorr brake cylinders
Use aluminum guards on the jaws of the vise.
5 | Compress the cylinder (5) against the spring (6) and manually unscrew the forked rod (3) | For Wabco brake cylinders, where the forked rod (3) is welded to the piston (7), remove the sealing ring (2) to remove the forked rod (3).
6 | Remove the piston (7) and the spring (6) from the cylinder (5) | Relieve the pressure on the spring (6).
7 | Remove the hood (1), the sealing ring (2) and the plugs (4) from the cylinder (5)
| Clean | ||
8 | Wash the parts and check them for damage and wear | Use a suitable product to prevent damage to the rubber and plastic parts of the component.
| Assemble | ||
9 | Mount all three covers (4), the sealing ring (2) and the hood (1) on the cylinder | The repair kit parts should be replaced at each disassembly.
The bottom hole of the cylinder (5) should be open.
The internal parts of the cylinder (5) and the parts to be assembled should be free of grease or other lubricant.
10 | Fasten the piston (7) to a vise and install it on the spring (6) and the cylinder (5) with the forked rod (3) | Knorr brake cylinders.
Use aluminum guards on the jaws of the vise.
11 | Screw the rod (3) to the piston (7) by pressing the rod until you notice that its end has touched the bottom of the threaded part of the piston | Apply a chemical lock to the thread on the rod (3).
For Wabco brake cylinders, where the forked rod is welded to the piston, the piston, mount the piston on the cylinder, then install the sealing ring (2).
Auto Lock | |||
12 | Mount the diaphragm (8) and the cover (9) on the piston (7) | Apply talc to the diaphragm (8) and slightly compress the cylinder (5).
13 | Mount the strap (12) by positioning it together with the cover (9) and install the screw (11) | Place the cover (9) and the strap (12) by aligning the marks made during.
After tightening the screw (11), tap the strap (12) lightly to ensure the perfect seating of parts.
