Lowering the propeller shaft intermediate bearing (4) changes not only the articulation angle at the front of the rear propeller shaft relative to the rear of the rear propeller shaft (K4), but also the articulation angle of the transfer case relative to the front of the rear propeller shaft (K3) and the articulation angle at the rear of the rear propeller shaft relative to the rear axle differential (K5). Therefore a complete check measurement must always be carried out after an articulation angle correction.
1 | Remove heat shield under propeller shaft intermediate bearing (4). To do so, unscrew screws (2). |
2 | Unscrew screws at propeller shaft intermediate bearing (4), secure propeller shaft. |
3 | Fabricate propeller shaft intermediate bearing spacers (3) using geometry of propeller shaft intermediate bearing (4). |
Instead of propeller shaft intermediate bearing spacers (3), commercially-available washers with the appropriate bore diameter and thickness may also be used. |
For each 1 mm plate thickness, the articulation angle at the front of the rear propeller shaft relative to the rear of the rear propeller shaft (4) is increased by approx. 0.130. During this the: |
With a spacer thickness of more than 2 mm, the screw length of the screws on the propeller shaft intermediate bearing (4) must be extended by 5 mm. |
4 | Insert propeller shaft intermediate bearing spacers (3) or washers between frame floor assembly and propeller shaft intermediate bearing (4). |
5 | Mount propeller shaft intermediate bearing (4) and tighten screws at propeller shaft intermediate bearing (4). |
6 | Install heat shield under propeller shaft intermediate bearing (4). |
