Remove/install drive flange at the rear axle

Remove/install drive flange at the rear axle

1	Nut
2	Propeller shaft
3	Collar nut
4	Drive flange
5	Dust protective ring
6	Radial shaft sealing ring

	Remove
1	Remove propeller shaft (2) at drive flange (4).		AR41.10-W-0050A
		 Secure propeller shaft to prevent it from falling.
2	Lock differential lock mechanically.		AR35.40-W-0700A
3	Remove left rear axle shaft.
4	Measure axle drive friction torque at collar nut (3) and note down.	 The friction torque measured at this point is the basic value and is required when installing the collar nut (3).

5	Release collar nut (3).		AR35.30-W-0432-05A
		 Completely shear off locking lugs of collar nut (3). Otherwise small remnants of the locking tab can damage the thread of the shaft when the collar nut (3) is removed.
6	Unscrew collar nut (3).	 Do not use an impact wrench to unscrew the collar nut (3). The bearings of the axle drive can otherwise be damaged.

7	Remove drive flange (4) with dust protection ring (5).	 Puller	*035589013300
8	Remove O-ring on the drive pinion shaft.	Only if an O-ring is installed.
9	Remove radial shaft sealing ring (6) from axle drive housing.
	Check
10	Check sealing surface of drive flange (4) for galling of radial shaft sealing ring (6).	If galling is present.
		
		Replace drive flange (4) and dust protection ring (5).
	Install
11	Install new radial shaft sealing ring (6) in axle drive housing.	 Drift	*740589001500
12	Install O-ring onto drive pinion shaft.	Only if an O-ring was installed.
13	Install drive flange (4) with dust protection ring (5).	 Apply a light coating of oil to sealing surface of radial shaft sealing ring (6) on drive flange (4).
		Hypoid gear oil	*BR00.45-Z-1023-06A
14	Turn drive flange (4) approx. 20 rotations.	 This enables the bearings to settle.
15	Screw on new collar nut (3) and tighten.	 Drive flange to drive pinion	*BA35.30-N-1007-02F

16	Measure axle drive friction torque at collar nut (3) and compare with noted basic value or substitute value.	 If no basic value is noted, always apply the minimum friction torque as the substitute value.

		If the measured value deviates from the noted basic value or the substitute value.
		
		Perform operation steps 17 and 18.
		If the measured value is in the area of the noted basic value or the substitute value.
		
		Perform all operations as of operation step 19.
17	Further tighten collar nut (3) with a value raised by 50 Nm.	Only if the value measured in operation step 16 deviates from the noted basic value or from the substitute value.

18	Measure axle drive friction torque at the collar nut (3) again and compare with the noted basic value or the substitute value.	Minimum friction torque on pinion	*BE35.30-N-1001-01N

		If the measured value deviates from the noted basic value or the substitute value again.
		
		Release collar nut (3) and once again perform operations as of operation step 15.
		If the measured value is in the area of the noted basic value or the substitute value.
		
		Perform operations as of operation step 19.
19	Secure the collar nut (3).		AR35.30-W-0432-03A
20	Clean sealing surface at wheel hub and at flange of left rear axle shaft and coat with sealant.	Omnifit sealantFD10-1042	*BR00.45-Z-1105-01A
21	Install left rear axle shaft.	 Rear axle shaft to wheel hub	*BA35.30-N-1016-02F
22	Release differential lock.		AR35.40-W-0700A
23	Attach propeller shaft (2) to drive flange (4).		AR41.10-W-0050A
