Remove lock washer (7) and unscrew inner slotted nut (6)

Remove rear wheel hub (4) and outer tapered roller bearing (5)

Remove radial shaft sealing ring (2)

Remove both radial shaft sealing rings (2.1, 2.2)

Remove cover panel (3) from rear wheel hub (4)

Remove thrust ring (1)

 Release thrust ring (1) with a chisel and remove.



Install

Clean sitting surface of thrust ring (1) on axle tube

 Warning

Risk of injury. Skin or eye injuries may result when handling hot or glowing objects.

Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses, if necessary.

Heat up new thrust ring (1) to approx. 80 °C and push on until it abuts with the axle tube

 Press on thrust ring (1) until it has cooled down sufficiently that its installation position no longer changes.

Insert new cover panel (3) into rear wheel hub (4)

Install new radial shaft sealing ring (2)

A drift with a groove must be used.
Otherwise the sealing lip of the radial shaft sealing ring (2) may be damaged and the rear wheel hub (4) may suffer from leaks.

Install new radial shaft sealing rings (2.2, 2.1)

Otherwise the sealing lip of the inner radial shaft sealing ring (2.2) may be damaged and the rear wheel hub (4) may suffer from leaks.

 Apply light coating of grease to rubber-lined outer sealing surface of the inner radial shaft sealing ring (2.2).

Mount rear wheel hub (4) onto axle tube

 Do not damage the sealing lips of the radial shaft sealing ring (2) or the radial shaft sealing rings (2.1, 2.2).

Apply light coating of grease to outer tapered roller bearing (5) and install

MB multipurpose grease, 400 g

Tighten inner slotted nut (6)

 Continuously turn the rear wheel hub (4) and apply a few strikes with a rubber hammer to the rear wheel hub (4) in a crosswise pattern so that the tapered roller bearings make contact with zero clearance.

Loosen inner slotted nut (6) again by approx. 1/4 turn

 The locking pin of the lock washer (6) must point outward.

Secure outer slotted nut (8)

 Drive locking plate (7) into suitable grooves of the inner slotted nut (6) and outer slotted nut (8).

Clean sealing surfaces on rear wheel hub (4) and on flange of rear axle shaft (9) and then coat with sealant
