| Remove | ||
Danger | Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. | Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.
1 | Place the vehicle on a suitable lift | The most convenient and safe way to work under this vehicle is using a lift with adequate capacity.
2 | If necessary, remove the wheels
When using appropriate lift, removing all the wheels is not necessary.
3 | Lift the front axle so that the struts are not stressed
4 | Remove the flanged nuts (4.3) and the screws (4.2) retaining the armature support (4.4) | Do not change the adjustment length of the strut. Any necessary adjustment will be made after final assembly, during the alignment operation.
For vehicles 634.061, the top transverse rod may be fixed, but it changes nothing in the removal and installation work. The basic dimension is equal to the adjustable strut.
. B basic assembly measurement of the front transversal control arm
5 | Remove all three screws (3.3) securing the joint retaining disk (3.2) to the support pivot shaft for the armature (3.1), and remove it. Rotate the armature (1) on the support pivot shaft of the armature (3.1) and remove the transverse armature (1)
6 | If you must replace the transverse rod supporting shaft secured to the front axle, remove the cotter pin (3.5), the castle nut (3.4), and the support pivot shaft of the armature (3.1) from the front axle (3.6) | Take care when removing so as not to damage the housing on the front axle.
Use a copper billet or an appropriate conventional extractor.
| Clean | ||
7 | Clean all components of the transverse strut | When cleaning, avoid the contact of the pads and sleeves with solvents or other liquid detergents.
Remove any chemical lock residues from the transverse strut pivot shaft threads.
The internal threads on the support shaft should be free of oil because a new chemical lock will be applied to the threads when assembling.
| Check | ||
8 | inspect all components of the strut and the support shaft secured to the front axle | Replace:
| |||
Cross strut damaged or deformed.
Eyelets of the strut on damaged terminals.
Deformed or worn strut support shaft secured to the axle.
Castle nut, if necessary.
Cotter pin of the castle nut.
9 | Inspect the condition of the strut pad and joint sleeve
Installation: If necessary, replace rubber buffers and bushings on the eyes, if worn.
| Install | ||
10 | If it has been removed, install the new bracket with the support pivot shaft of the armature (3.1) embedded into its housing on the front axle | Apply to the contact surface a light coat of lubricant to prevent further oxidation.
11 | Install and tighten the castle nut (3.4) and the new cotter pin (3.5) | Apply the specified torque and control the position of the castle nut (3.4), so that the new cotter pin (3.5) enters seamlessly into its housing.

12 | Adjusting the basic assembly length of the strut, if required | Adjust only if the strut or adapter is replaced.
. B basic assembly measurement of the front transversal control arm
.Clamp flange Bolts | |||
13 | Attach the transverse armature to the support pivot shaft of the armature (3.1) without the retaining disk (3.2) | Since an adhesive has been applied to the screws, the retaining disk will be installed after the transverse strut has been attracted to the frame.
Vaseline | |||
14 | With the vehicle supported by the frame, move the front axle until the pivot shaft of the transverse strut pad matches the hole on the frame | Lubricate the threads with a light coat of grease and use new flanged nuts on the screws.
Grease, DB supply specification 6804 - Class 267.0
15 | Insert the flange fixing screws (4.2) into the pivot shaft (4.1) and the armature support (4.4), install the new flanged nuts (4.3) | .Front control arms on the frame
16 | Apply the adhesive to the threads of the new screws (3.3) | Auto Lock
17 | Install the retaining disk (3.2) on the support shaft and tighten the screws | Tighten the screws in three stages, all three with the same prescribed torque.
.Cover plates at control arm joints
18 | Install the wheels in case they have been removed
Note the subsequent retightening.
Danger | Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. | Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.
19 | Lower the vehicle from the lift
20 | Check all steering adjustment values on both the front and rear axles corresponding to the vehicle | use a suitable updated alignment device.
21 | If necessary, adjust the alignment values, adjust the struts | To adjust the armatures mounted on the vehicle, loosen the armature clamps (8) and rotate the bodies (1) through the central rectangle. After obtaining the alignment dimension, gently return the key to relieve the pressure on the joints.
.Clamp flange Bolts | |||
22 | Run a test drive and check the vehicle behavior |
