Remove

Secure vehicle to prevent it moving away.

Tilt cab.

Raise vehicle at front axle far enough so that wheels can turn freely, and jack up vehicle at vehicle frame using jack stands.

 Leave front axle raised.

Remove shock absorber (8) from spring support (11).

Remove nuts (4) from front and rear spring bearings (1, 5).

 To improve accessibility at the front steering-side spring bearing (1), turn the steering slightly.

Loosen 4 screws of mounting support for exhaust gas aftertreatment unit at vehicle frame.

Only when removing right front axle spring (2).

 This enables the exhaust gas aftertreatment unit to be moved when the screw (6) is removed from the rear spring bearing (5).

Loosen 4 screws of mounting support for AdBlue® container on vehicle frame.

Only when removing left front axle spring (2).

 This enables the AdBlue® container to be moved when the screw (6) is removed from the rear spring bearing (5).

Remove screws (6) from spring bearings (1, 5).

Remove 4 screws (9).

 The screws (9) are used to attach the torsion bar bearing bracket (10), spring support (11), front axle spring (2) and clamping plate (3) to the front axle (12).

Remove clamping plate (3) from front axle spring (2).

Lower front axle (12) and remove spring support (11) from front axle (12).

Remove front axle spring (2) from front axle (12).



Install

Apply light coating of grease to mounting hole for center bolt in spring support (11) and place spring support (11) onto front axle (12).

Place front axle spring (2) onto spring support (11).

Place clamping plate (3) on front axle spring (2).

Align torsion bar bearing bracket (10), spring support (11), front axle spring (2) and clamping plate (3) with each other.

Guide 4 new screws (9) through torsion bar bearing bracket (10), position on clamping plate (3) and tighten lightly by hand.

 When doing so, maintain alignment of torsion bar bearing bracket (10), spring support (11), front axle spring (2) and clamping plate (3) relative to each other.

Raise front axle (12) and position spring bearings (1, 5) on vehicle with new screws (6).

 Position spring bearing (1) on spring bracket and spring bearing (5) on longitudinal equalization.

Position new nuts (4) on screws (6) and tighten threaded connection.

 To improve accessibility at the front steering-side spring bearing (1), turn the steering slightly.

If necessary, move exhaust gas aftertreatment unit into installation position and tighten 4 screws of mounting support for exhaust gas aftertreatment unit on longitudinal frame member.

Only when installing right front axle spring (2).

If necessary, move AdBlue® container into installation position and tighten 4 screws of mounting support for AdBlue® container on longitudinal frame member.

Only when installing left front axle spring (2).

Tighten 4 screws (9).

Attach shock absorber (8) to spring support (11).

Raise vehicle at front axle (2), remove jack stands from vehicle frame and lower vehicle.

Tilt the cab back into drive mode.
