Remove

Remove main components of transmission

AR27.50-S-0610E

 Do not remove external plate carrier (16a) from torque converter housing.



Check

Check thrust bearing (161), warehouse (162), contact surfaces and sealing rings (see arrow in picture 1) for swirl marks and damage

 Replace thrust bearing (161) as per findings. The thrust bearing (161) and bearing (162) together with the external plate carrier (16a) form a single unit and must always be replaced together.



Disassemble

Remove retaining ring (105s) and end disk (105)

Remove clutch pack (5) and disk spring (5t)



Check

5

Check clutch pack (5) for scorch marks and wear.

 Replace affected disks if required by findings.

Place external plate carrier (16a) with torque converter housing into lever-type hand gun

Lever press

Place thrust device on disk spring (16t)

 Position the thrust device precisely (see arrow in picture 2) to enable the retaining ring (16s) to be removed later.

Actuate lever-type hand gun until retaining ring (16s) is exposed


Stop lever press stroke as soon as accessibility is sufficient.
Excess force can cause damage.

Remove retaining ring (16s) from groove

Reset lever press

Remove device and external plate carrier (16a) from lever-type hand gun

Remove retaining ring (16s)

Remove disk spring (16t)

Remove piston (16k) from external plate carrier (16a)



Check

Check piston (16k) and vulcanized seal for damage

 Replace piston (16k) as per findings.

Check external plate carrier (16a) for damage



Assemble

Install piston (16k) into external plate carrier (16a)

Install disk spring (16t)

 Insert disk spring (16t) in such a way that curvature of inner circumference points toward piston (16k).

Fit retaining ring (16s)

 Final installation is only possible when the lever press is actuated.

Place external plate carrier (16a) with torque converter housing into lever-type hand gun

Place thrust device on disk spring (16t)

 Position the thrust device precisely (see arrow in picture 2) to enable the retaining ring (16s) to be installed.


Check for correct installation position of retaining ring (16s).
Otherwise the disk spring (5t) will jam.

Install disk spring (5t) and disk pack (5) in external plate carrier (16a)

 Insert disk spring (5t) in such a way that curvature of inner circumference points toward piston (16k).

Install end disk (105).

Install retaining ring (105s)


