| Remove/install | ||
1 | Switch off ignition | ||
Danger! | Risk of injury caused by body parts being pinched or crushed as cab is tilted | Ensure that no one is within the tilting range of the cab as it is being tilted. Always tilt the cab all the way to the end position and secure with the safety strut.
2 | Tilt cab | Installation: Only tilt cab back after leak test has been conducted.
| Notes on tilting the cab | ||
3 | Drain coolant at radiator
4 | Remove holder from metering device for exhaust aftertreatment system | Only for vehicles with code (MS4) BlueTec 4 or with code (MS5) BlueTec 5.
5 | Remove charge air pipe (1) from turbocharger to charge air cooler | Installation: Do not install charge air pipe (1) until the engine oil circuit has been filled.
6 | Remove air intake hose (2) | Installation: Do not install air intake hose (2) until the engine oil circuit has been filled.
7 | Unscrew oil filter cover (10) and remove | Installation: Replace O-ring (10) for oil level sensor.
| |||
8 | Remove crankcase breather line (9)
9 | Remove oil pressure line (7) | Close off oil pressure bore holes.
Installation: Replace sealing rings.
| |||
10 | Separate electrical connectors (6)
11 | Clean cylinder head in area of the exhaust manifold (8)
12 | Slacken exhaust manifold (8) on cylinder head and push away | When detaching exhaust manifold (8) ensure that neither dirt nor foreign objects find their way into in the exhaust manifold (8) to avoid damage to the turbocharger.
Unscrew exhaust manifold bolts in the lower row by about 10 mm and in the upper row completely. Cover opening between exhaust manifold (8) and cylinder head.
Installation: Replace seals.
Check shank length of exhaust manifold bolts; replace if necessary. Unscrew individual exhaust manifold bolts in the lower row to check them.
| |||
13 | Remove cover (5) with oil/water heat exchanger (3) on cylinder crankcase | Installation: Clean sealing surfaces and install new gasket.
| |||
14 | Remove oil-water heat exchanger (3) on cover (5) | Installation: Clean sealing surfaces and replace gasket (4).
Only tighten bolt (11) after installing the oil/water heat exchanger (3) and the cover (5) in the cylinder crankcase.
| |||
15 | Remove engine oil temperature sensor (B11) on cover (5) | Only for leaks on engine oil temperature sensor (B11), or for replacing the cover (5).
Installation: Replace sealing ring.
| |||
16 | Install in the reverse order
17 | Fillling the engine oil circuit
Danger! | Risk of accident caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running | Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
18 | Start engine and allow to run in idle for 10 s until the oil pressure has built up, then run the engine at varying speeds
Danger! | Risk of accident caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running | Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
19 | Check oil/water heat exchanger (3), oil pressure line (7) and exhaust manifold (8) for leaks for a running engine | Visual inspection. |
