Timing case cover

 Danger

Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform.

Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.

Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.
Do not fill engine oil into beverage containers.

Remove

Drain off, collect engine oil.



Engine oil and oil filter change

Remove filler neck for engine oil.

Remove belt pulley for coolant pump.

 Only remove belt pulley of coolant pump.

Remove radial shaft sealing ring.

Remove screws of the timing case cover (1) in reverse order of the tightening procedure.

Remove timing case cover(1).


Remove timing case cover (1) carefully without using sharp-edged tools.
Damage can otherwise arise at sealing surfaces of oil pan, crankcase and cylinder head.

 Dispose of timing case cover (1).



Clean

Clean sealing surfaces of the oil pan, crankcase, and cylinder head.

Install

Apply sealant to new timing case cover (1).

Leaks can occur otherwise.

Align and position new timing case cover (1).

Screw in screws of the new timing case cover (1) as per the tightening procedure.

Install new radial shaft sealing ring in new timing case cover (1).

Install belt pulley for coolant pump.

Install filler neck for engine oil.

Add engine oil.

 Warning

Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running.

Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.
