Insert a hose in the engine radiator drain (indicated by the arrow) open the drain screw (3) and collect the coolant in a suitable container

Unscrew the drain screw (4) in the engine block and collect the coolant into a suitable container using a hose

Remove the coolant drain screw on the right side of the block, near to the water pump

Remove drain screw (5) from the retarder heat exchanger and allow the coolant to drain in a suitable container


Caution to remove the correct plug because there is another plug for the retarder oil.
The heat exchanger drain screw (5) is located next to the coolant outlet piping.


Vehicles with code BA1 (Voith retarder with optimized output).

Install the drain screw (5) on the retarder (vehicle equipped with retarder)

Fill up with coolant until the edge of the filler neck (2)Engine 457.9, 460.984 

Observe the recommended composition.

Start the engine and monitor the coolant level in the reservoir

Correct the level, if necessary.

Install the cap (1) on the filler neck (2) of the cooling system
