MODELS 901, 902, 903, 904 with ENGINES 111.979 /984
Modification notes
Sprinter fitted with natural gas technology (NGT) propulsion
As part of the commitment to the environment, the Sprinters 902, 903, 904 are available ex-works with modern natural gas technology.
The NGT Sprinter has a monovalent natural gas engine with group-sequential compressed natural gas (CNG) injection.
The technology which has been used for years in gasoline injection is implemented consequently in the adapted gas technology. The specific injection, controlled by an engine control unit, ensures far improved combustion and excellent emission levels. Depending on the volume of the fuel tank (which varies from model and arrangement of the pressurized gas tanks) it is possible to achieve ranges between 190 km and 250 km with the natural gas compressed to 200 bar.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
All Sprinters planned as NGT vehicles ex-works are marked with the sales codes MS7 and KL8 or KL9 and, if necessary, KL7 (special equipment).
Along with the model refinement carried out in February 2000, the gasoline engine 111.984 was also modified for operation with natural gas.
Since then, additional compressed-gas tanks have permitted a range of up to 370 km.
The maintenance interval extension could also be realized here.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The performance, torque and compression in engines 111.979 and 111.984 were adapted to the gas-specific requirements. The varying data are:
Engine 111.979:
Performance: 92 SW at 5 200 rpm
Torque: 182 Nm at 4 000 ... 4 500 rpm
Compression ratioε: 10.4
Exhaust emission standard: EU 3 Group 1
Engine 111.984:
Performance: 95 SW at 5 400 rpm
Torque: 185 Nm at 3 300 ... 4 500 rpm
Compression ratioε: 10.4
Exhaust emission standard: EU 4 Group 1
