Display operating conditions, general
The operating state displays on the instrument cluster and multifunction display continuously provide the driver with information on the current operating states of the vehicle.
The "display operating conditions" function comprises the following subfunctions:
Function sequence for displaying charge level
Function sequence for displaying current performance of high-voltage system
Function sequence for displaying average power drain
Function sequence for displaying selector lever position
Function sequence for displaying ECO rating
Function sequence for displaying charging process
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Function sequence for displaying charge level
The battery management system control unit (N82/2) detects the charge level of the high-voltage battery (G5) and sends this value via the electric vehicle CAN (CAN EV), drivetrain control unit (N127) and engine compartment CAN (CAN C) to the instrument cluster.
The instrument cluster presents the charge level graphically in the form of an 8-segment indicator in the multifunction display.
Up to a charge level of 10 %, the remaining range is shown in the multifunction display.
At a charge level of 20 %, the text "HV battery reserve" appears. At a charge level of 10 %, the text "HV battery reserve" appears, followed by the text "Low battery" in place of the remaining range.
The charge level is additionally indicated as a percentage on an analog additional instrument.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Function sequence for displaying current performance of high-voltage system
The drivetrain control unit calculates the current performance of the high-voltage system and sends this value via the engine compartment CAN to the instrument cluster.
The instrument cluster presents the current performance graphically in the form of a 3-segment indicator in the multifunction display.
Function sequence for displaying average power drain
The drivetrain control unit calculates the average power drain and sends this value via the engine compartment CAN to the instrument cluster.
The instrument cluster presents the average power drain graphically in the form of "kW/h" in the multifunction display.
The current power drain or power recovery (regenerative braking) is additionally indicated as a percentage on an analog additional instrument.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Function sequence for displaying selector lever position
The data required for displaying the selector lever position is sent by the electronic selector lever module control unit (N15/5) via the engine compartment CAN to the instrument cluster.
The current selector lever position is indicated graphically in the instrument cluster as a letter in the multifunction display.
Function sequence for displaying ECO rating
The data required to display the ECO rating is sent by the drivetrain control unit via the engine compartment CAN to the instrument cluster. The ECO rating indicator appears in the multifunction display whenever the vehicle is being driven in a particularly energy-efficient manner, e.g. the vehicle is coasting freely without energy recovery taking place via the powerplant. The ECO rating indicator takes the form of the word "ECO" which appears to the left of the charge level indicator.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Function sequence for displaying charging process
The data required for displaying the charging process and for displaying the plug symbol is sent by the drivetrain control unit via the engine compartment CAN to the instrument cluster.
The charging process is calculated by the drivetrain control unit using data which is read in via the electric vehicle CAN. This data is provided primarily by the battery management system control unit.
The plug symbol appears as soon as a charging cable has been inserted correctly and the charging process is possible. The drivetrain control unit reads in the signal for detection of the charging cable via the electric vehicle CAN, and sends it via the engine compartment CAN to the instrument cluster.
To optimize the charging process, it is possible to set a departure time in the multifunction display. The stationary air conditioning control unit also operates according to this departure time.
Detailed information on the "stationary air conditioning" function can be found in the separate function description "Stationary air conditioning, function".
