General information
The emergency shift permits a limited shift possibility to permit an emergency running mode.
If minor system faults exist, it is possible to shift the transmission (provided certain conditions are fulfilled) by means of an emergency switch which is located on the rear of the gear control (GS) shift control unit.
If more severe system faults occur, however, only an emergency shift at the gearbox is possible. Two adjusting screws and a tool are included in the vehicle document wallet for shifting a gear stage on the shifter shaft itself.
Function
Actuation of the emergency switch on the gear control (GS) shift control unit causes the appropriate gear, gate or range solenoid valves to be actuated. This results in air being admitted to the relevant working cylinders thus shifting the gears.
When in emergency shift mode only 2nd gear, 5th gear, neutral and the reverse gear are available.
It is possible to shift from 2nd gear into 5th gear when driving. The other gears can only be shifted when the vehicle is stationary and the engine running.
In the event of major system errors the shifter shaft tool can be used to turn the shifter shaft.
The gear stages 1 and 2 can be shifted from the Neutral position.
In order to engage gear stages 3 and 4 or reverse gear, a plug on the shifter shaft must be removed and replaced by the appropriate adjusting screw.
The shifter shaft tool can then be used to turn the shifter shaft and to lock the required gear stage.
Then it is only possible to drive with the gear engaged. Gears cannot be changed while driving.
