Task
Providing an adequate quantity of filtered fuel from the fuel tank in all operating conditions and at an adequate pressure (injection pressure) to the fuel injection valves (Y62) for injection.
Function
When the engine is running, fuel is drawn from the fuel tank (75) by the fuel pump (M3 or M3m1, M3m2) and pumped through the fuel filter (55) to the fuel injection valves (Y62) connected to the fuel rail (17). The fuel pressure (injection pressure) is regulated by the diaphragm pressure regulator (40) as a function of the intake manifold pressure.
Excess fuel supplied flows back pressureless from the diaphragm pressure regulator (40) to the fuel tank (75). As a result of this circulation, relatively cool fuel is always available for injection (to avoid a formation of vapor bubbles).
The fuel injection valves (Y62) actuated by the HFM-SFI control module (N3/4) spray the fuel in a finely atomized spray into the intake port.
As a result of the arrangement of the fuel pumps (M3m1, M3m2) (connected to each other in line), each fuel pump produces half the fuel pressure (injection pressure).
