Danger! | Fuel vapors present an explosion hazard. Combustion gases are toxic when inhaled. Heater can cause severe burns during and after operation. | Do not start up or operate stationary heaters or engines with heater boosters in closed rooms or in the vicinity of service stations. Allow heater to cool off after operation and wear protective gloves.
1 | Remove bottom section of sound-proofing capsule at front
2 | Remove air cleaner | ||
Danger! | Danger of severe burns to skin and eyes from hot coolant spewing out. Coolant is toxic when swallowed | Open cooling system only when coolant temperature is below 90 °C. Open cover slowly and reduce pressure. Do not fill beverage containers with coolant. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and protective goggles.
3 | Relieve pressure in coolant circuit | For this purpose, turn coolant expansion reservoir cap to catch "1"
4 | Clamp off coolant lines (1 and 2) on vehicle side coolant circulation pump (M13) and coolant expansion line (5)
5 | Disconnect coolant feed and coolant outlet lines (4 and 3) from pipes | Catch coolant running out in clean vessel and add to coolant expansion reservoir after installing heater
6 | Clamp off fuel feed line (7) and disconnect from heater (A6)
7 | Unscrew nuts (8) from heater mount on longitudinal frame member
8 | Unscrew nuts (6) for heater mount below right headlamp unit | Before unscrewing nuts support heater from below
9 | Move heater (A6) downward and out together with bracket (11) and unclip connectors (9 and 10) on electrical connection leads
| Disassembly, assembly | ||
10 | Remove exhaust line (14) from bracket and heater | On vehicles with stationary preheater, an exhaust muffler is mounted on the bracket.
11 | Clamp off coolant feed and coolant outlet line (4 and 3) and combustion air intake line (12) on heater
12 | Unscrew screws (13) on both sides of bracket (11) and remove bracket from heater
13 | Install in opposite order
Checking | |||
14 | Bleed coolant circuit after installing heater
15 | Check cooling system for leakage
16 | Perform heater booster diagnosis, function check
17 | Start up stationary preheater | If the heater (A6) switches off automatically before reaching the operating temperature and cannot be restarted a malfunction lockout is present (continue with ).
Eliminate malfunction lockout |
