Danger! | Risk of explosion caused by welding or soldering work on closed air conditioning system. Risk of poisoning caused by inhaling overheated refrigerant vapors. Risk of injury to skin and eyes caused by contact with liquid refrigerant. | Never perform welding work on or near a closed air conditioning system. No smoking or open flames. Wear safety glasses and protective gloves. Work only in well ventilated areas. Carry out repair work on the air conditioning system circuit only after the system has been drained.
| Procedure for a damaged or leaky air conditioning system | ||
| Protect air conditioning circuit and components from moisture when carrying out repair work | All models with air conditioning | |
| Notes on handling R134a refrigerant | All models with R134a refrigerant | |
1 | Drain air conditioning (recycle) | Add quantity of compressor oil evacuated to refrigeration circuit when charging air conditioning (new oil).
2 | Remove lower engine compartment paneling
3 | Disconnect plug from refrigerant pressure sensor (B12)
4 | Unplug connector of temperature sensor (B12/1)
5 | Remove screws/bolts (3) at fluid reservoir | Seal openings (parts kit)
Installation: Replace O-rings. When connecting lines, moisten thread with compressor oil.
| |||
6 | Unscrew nuts (4) | ||
7 | Remove fluid reservoir (1) with tensioning strap toward bottom
8 | Loosen clamping strap (5) with retaining tabs and pull off
9 | Install in the reverse order | Observe the refill oil quantity when replacing the fluid reservoir.
Danger! | Risk of accident caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running | Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
10 | Switch on the air conditioner and allow the engine to idle for roughly 4 minutes. | Turn center air vents temperature adjustment wheel to end stop in blue area. Set left and right temperature at automatic climate control operating unit to "" Blowers to max.
11 | Check air conditioning for proper operation | The air outlet temperature at the center air vent must not sink below + 5 0C, or
Carry out diagnosis | |||
12 | Inspect the air conditioning circuit for leaks | Air conditioning system leak detector |
