Checking and adjusting hydraulic end limiter

Remove/Install

Unscrew floor plate in center aisle of passenger compartment and remove

Position vehicle with front wheels on turntables

 The steering axle (front axle) must bear the vehicle weight, i.e. the vehicle must not be raised at the front axle.

Inspecting, setting

Check center position of steering linkage and adjust if necessary

Check wheel stop and adjust if necessary

Connect oil pressure gauge

Danger!

Risk of accident. Accidents may result if the vehicle starts off unintentionally with the engine running. Risk of injury as working around the engine during start-up or while running may result in contusions and burns

Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not grasp hot or rotating parts.

Start engine and run at idle speed

Turn steering wheel to stop

 It must be possible to turn the steering wheel without much force.

Turn steering wheel again briefly (maximum 5 second intervals) until a firm steering wheel stop is achieved



- Turning the steering wheel up to a firm stop overcomes the return force of the steering valve.

- The necessary operating force at the steering wheel is approx. 100 to 200 N.

Read oil pressure value on pressure gage

 If the value is not within the permissible range, the steering limiter must be readjusted.

Renew bolts (1, 2) and sliding bushes

 This step is only necessary if

- the oil pressure does not fall to the specified value (larger value of oil pressure than specified value),

- the oil pressure falls to the specified value but there is no gap or too large a gap at the wheel stops.

 If not renewed, the sliding bushes would have to be pushed onto the press seating and that is not permissible.

Before carrying out this step

- stop the engine,

- put the front wheels in the straight-ahead position.



Adjusting steering limiter

- To do this, the front wheels must be forced to the maximum right and left wheel locks.

 The steering wheel must be turned only with increased force with or without hydraulic assistance.

- The sliding sleeves on the two bolts (1,2) are then pushed automatically into their respective switch-off positions on these bolts.

- Check the steering limiter again.
