Only carry out the work when retarder is off. Wear protective clothing and goggles.
3 | Clean the area of oil drain screw (1), the screw-in plug (2), and the oil filling screw (6)
4 | Remove the oil drain screw (1)
Collect the oil in an appropriated recipient and dispose of it in Eco-friendly manner.
5 | Remove the screw-in plug (2) | In case of retarder high pressure, oil may leak through the screw-in plug (2).
6 | Install the adapter (3) with seal ring to the screw-in plug (2) | Adapter
Adapter | |||
7 | Assemble a self-made connecting pipe (4) | Only if the tire inflation unit (5) does not fit with the adapter (3).
8 | Install the tire inflation unit (5) in the connecting pipe (4) or in the adapter (3)
9 | Apply short pulses of air in the retarder with the tire inflation unit (5) | Repeat this action until only oil mist gets out from oil drain screw (1).
10 | Check the amount of drained oil | The amount of oil drained from the retarder should be between 5.4 liters and 5.6 liters.
If the amount of drained oil is less than 5.4 liters:
| |||
There may be external leaks in the retarder or seal ring between the transmission and the retarder.
Check the retarder housing for signs of leaks. Check transmission oil level.
If the amount of drained oil is more than 5.6 liters:
| |||
There may be leakage in the seal ring between the transmission and the retarder.
Check transmission oil level.
11 | Remove the tire inflation unit (5), the connecting pipe (4) and the adapter (3) from the retarder
12 | Remove oil filling screw (6)
