| Notes on self-locking nuts and bolts | ||
1 | Park vehicle on a level surface above pit | Perform all work with vehicle unloaded.
2 | Lower liftable trailing axle completely
3.1 | Interrupt power supply using battery disconnect switch | Only vehicles with battery disconnect switch.
Danger! | Risk of explosion caused by escaping oxyhydrogen gas. Risk of injury caused by caustic burns to eyes, skin and mucous membranes from battery electrolyte (contains diluted sulfuric acid) or metal spatter due to short circuit. Risk of burn injuries caused by short circuit. Risk of poisoning caused by swallowing battery electrolyte (contains diluted sulfuric acid) or absorption of lead over the skin or orifices | No fire, sparks, open flames or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves and clothing and safety glasses with side guards. Do not place any conductive objects on the battery and avoid any short circuit from battery positive to ground. Only fill liquid battery electrolyte (diluted sulfuric acid) into suitable and appropriately marked containers.
3.2 | Disconnect ground lead from battery | Only vehicles without battery disconnect switch.
| Notes on battery | ||
4 | Detach compressed air line (8) from support plate (2) | With "VOSS 230"
With "VOSS 232" (NG 8, 12)
| Notes on compressed air connection systems | ||
5 | Unscrew nuts (4) and remove lift bellow brackets (3) | Do not change positions of nuts (7) on lift bellow brackets (3).
6 | Remove crossmember (5) along with support plate (6) | If support plate (6) cannot be detached from lift bellows (1):
Detach crossmember (5) from support plate (6) and remove crossmember (5).
7 | Remove lifting bellows (1). | If lift bellows (1) cannot be detached from support plate (2):
Detach support plate (2) from lower crossmember and remove lift bellows (1) along with support plate (2).
8 | Remove support plates (2, 6) from lift bellows (1) | Only when support plates (2, 6) were previously unable to be detached from lift bellows (1).
| Checking | ||
9 | Clean all parts and check for signs of damage, cracks and corrosion | Replace damaged parts if necessary.
| Install | ||
10 | Install support plate (2) | Only if support plate (2) was removed.
11 | Mount lift bellows (1) onto support plate (2)
12 | Mount support plate (6) onto crossmember (5) | Only if support plate (6) was dismantled from crossmember (5).
13 | Mount crossmember (5) along with support plate (6) onto lift bellows (1)
14 | Screw nuts (7) onto new lift bellow brackets (3) until they are at the same position as on the removed lift bellow brackets (3) | Only if the lift bellow brackets (3) were replaced.
15 | Mount lift bellow brackets (3)
16 | Attach compressed air line (8) to support plate (2) | With "VOSS 230"
With "VOSS 232" (NG 8, 12)
| Notes on compressed air connection systems | ||
Danger! | Risk of accident caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running | Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
