Align vehicle between columns of vehicle lift and position four support plates at vehicle lift support points specified by vehicle manufacturer.

Remove rear-axle shaft (37)

Press radial sealing rings (32a) out of rear axle differential (50) using a suitable tool



Install

Press new radial sealing rings (32a) into rear axle differential (50) using a drift

 Coat the sealing lip of the radial sealing rings (32a) with universal hypoid gear oil.



Pry off and press on protective rings at rear axle shafts (37) or at connecting flanges

 The radial sealing ring (32a) and protective ring must always be replaced together. This is the only way to ensure a proper seal.

Install rear axle shaft (37).

Check oil level in rear axle differential (50) and correct if necessary

 Mixing of old universal hypoid gear oil and the new FE hypoid gear oil should be avoided due to the better fuel economy.

 Important note: For model 230.479 only rear axle oil type CASTROL SAF-XJ is permissible.
