 The vehicle should not be on its wheels.



Remove/install wheels, rotate if necessary

Unclip vacuum line from clips (5)

Unscrew nuts (6) and nut (7) and turn cable connector box (8) slightly to one side

 Only for engine 113, 156, 642.

 The nut (15) must be accessible.

Unclip water drain pipe (9) to the side and detach upwards

 Installation: Pay attention to correct seat of water drain pipe (9) in front end.

Remove bolts (10), push left reinforcement (11) to the vehicle center (arrow) and remove upwards

 Only on vehicles without Airmatic (air suspension with level adjustment and Adaptive Damping System ADS), code 489.



Detach vacuum line from the vacuum pump and turn to one side, remove injection system control unit from bracket (14) and place to one side

 Do not separate electrical connectors on injection system control unit.

Unscrew nuts (12) and nut (13) and remove bracket (14)

Separate bolted connection of level sensor bracket to transverse control arm and detach the level sensor bracket from the transverse control arm (18)

 Only on vehicles with AIRmatic (air suspension with level adjustment and adaptive damping system ADS), code 489.

Unclip brake hose from bracket (19)

 Only on vehicles without Airmatic (air suspension with level adjustment and Adaptive Damping System ADS), code 489.

 The brake hose should not be stressed.

Unscrew nut (20) and disconnect link rod from front shock absorber

 Only on vehicles without Airmatic (air suspension with level adjustment and Adaptive Damping System ADS), code 489.



Unscrew nut (17) and detach the steering knuckle from the upper transverse control arm (18)



Pull bolt (21) and bolt (22) out of the front end

Remove upper transverse control arm (18)

Check follower joint on upper transverse control arm (18)

 If findings are negative: Replace upper transverse control arm (18). Defective supporting joints can lead to serious accidents!
