Remove front wheels

Disconnect all lines from front axle

5

Mount front axle onto assembly stand



Disassemble

Remove steering knuckle

Remove sealing rings and needle roller bearings from axle tubes (5)

Remove bolts (4) on both axle tubes (5)

Remove bolt (1)

Remove pinion flange (2) with O-ring and shims



Check

Check drive pinion and bearing in pinion flange (2) for signs of wear and damage

If there are problems:



Repair pinion flange (2).

Remove one axle tube (5)

Remove ring gear with differential (6)



Check

Check ring gear with differential (6) for signs of wear and damage

If there are problems:



Repair ring gear with differential (6).

Remove release spring (7), sliding sleeve (8), needle roller bearing and piston (9) from axle tube (5)

Remove outer races (11) from both axle tubes (5)

Clean

Clean all parts



Check

Check all parts for wear and damage

If there are problems:



Replace worn or damaged parts.



Assemble

Adjust axle drive

Replace both O-rings (10) in axle tube (5)

Install piston (9), needle roller bearing, sliding sleeve (8) and release spring (7) into axle tube (5)

 The bearing rollers on the needle roller bearing must point toward sliding sleeve (8).

Apply coating of long-life grease to tapered roller bearing on ring gear with differential (6)

Install ring gear with differential (6)

Replace O-ring between pinion flange (2) and the front axle housing (3)

Coat drive pinion on pinion flange (2) with molybdenum-sulfide running-in paste

Insert pinion flange (2) with shims and O-ring into front axle housing (3) and fasten to front axle housing (3) using a bolt (1)

 The notch on the pinion flange (2) must point upwards in the installation position of the front axle.

Coat both axle tubes (5) with sealant

Assemble both axle tubes (5) and tighten bolts (4) evenly.
