 Danger!

Risk of explosion caused by escaping oxyhydrogen gas. Risk of injury caused by caustic burns to eyes, skin and mucous membranes from battery electrolyte (contains diluted sulfuric acid) or metal spatter due to short circuit. Risk of burn injuries caused by short circuit. Risk of poisoning caused by swallowing battery electrolyte (contains diluted sulfuric acid) or absorption of lead over the skin or orifices

No fire, sparks, open flames or smoking.

Wear acid-resistant gloves and clothing and safety glasses with side guards.

Do not place any conductive objects on the battery and avoid any short circuit from battery positive to ground.

Only fill liquid battery electrolyte (diluted sulfuric acid) into suitable and appropriately marked containers.

Disconnect battery ground line

 Installation: Code radio, set clock, normalize power windows and, set clock on stationary heater if installed.

Remove transfer case

Remove bolts (9, 11) and remove exhaust bracket (10)

Unlock securing pins (2), extract, and detach linkage rod (3) from transmission (1).

Unlock securing pins (2), extract, and detach shift rod (4) from gearshift lever (5)

 Installation: When attaching the shift rod (4) to the gearshift lever (5) ensure that the guide on the gearshift lever (5) is located on the side of the reverse gear lock on the shift gate (arrow).

 Danger!

Risk of poisoning caused by swallowing brake fluid. Risk of injury caused by brake fluid coming into contact with skin and eyes.

Only pour brake fluid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. Wear protective clothing and eye protection when handling brake fluid.

Remove retainer (7) from hydraulic line (6) and pull out hydraulic line (6)

 Immediately seal connections with stop plugs to prevent the entry of foreign objects.

 The brake fluid reservoir must not run completely empty.



Disconnect electrical connector for backup lamp switch (8)

Support and lash down transmission (1)

Remove bolts (12) from cylinder crankcase and remove transmission (1) downwards at an angle

 Installation: In order to avoid damage to the pilot bearing, carefully insert transmission (1) with input shaft into pilot bearing without tilting.



Checking

Check throwout bearing and guide bearing in flywheel

 Replace according to condition.

Inspect transmission oil level

 Correct oil level = 10 mm below bottom edge of filler opening.

Use vent valve (13) to bleed air from clutch-release mechanism.
