AR20.00-G-1030B | Remove grease and scale in the cooling system | 9.1.12 |
ENGINES 900.915 /916 /920 /921, 902.923 /924 /935, 904.927 /928 /952 /953, 906.935 /955, 924.916 /923 /931, 926.969
Remove grease | |||
1 | Drain coolant fully and collect | Engine 900.915/916, 902.923/924/935, 904.927/928, 906.935/955
Engine 900.920/921, 904.952/953, 924.916/923/ 931
Engine 926.969 | |||
2 | Remove coolant thermostat | Engine 900, 902, 904, 906, 924
Engine 926 | |||
3 | Block main valve at coolant thermostat in an open condition with a wire
4 | Install coolant thermostat | Engine 900, 902, 904, 906, 924
Engine 926 | |||
5 | Fill cooling system with a 5% solution of a mildly alkaline cleaner and fresh water | Mixing ratio: 50 g cleaner to 1 liter water.
Danger! | Risk of accident caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running | Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
6 | Warm up engine at moderate revs to a coolant temperature of approx. 80 °C and maintain at this coolant temperature for about 5 minutes | The radiator can be covered over if necessary.
7 | Switch off engine and allow coolant temperature to cool down to approx. 50°C
8 | Drain solution fully form the cooling system | Dispose of solution in environmentally compatible manner.
9 | Flush cooling system 2 times with fresh water; run the engine with each flushing filling for about | Dispose of water in environmentally compatible manner.
Remove scale | |||
10 | Fill cooling system with a 10% solution of water and citric, tartaric or oxalic acid | Before removing scale, always remove grease in the cooling system even if there is no visible sign of oiling. Chromic acid or products containing chrome must not be used because of the risk of contaminating wastewater.
Preference should be given to the use of citric acid. Mixing ratio: 100 g citric acid to 1 liter water.
Chemicals for preparing solutions can be obtained from the chemical trade. Commercially available products which contain the aforementioned acids, may also be used for removing scale and rust.
11 | Run engine at moderate revs to warm it up to about 80°C and hold at this temperature for about 10 minutes
12 | Switch off engine and allow to cool down to approx. 50°C
13 | Drain solution completely | Dispose of solution in environmentally compatible manner.
14 | Flush cooling system at least 3 times with fresh water; run engine with each flushing filling for 5 minutes for this purpose | Dispose of water in environmentally compatible manner.
15 | Remove coolant thermostat | Engine 900, 902, 904, 906, 924
Engine 926 | |||
16 | Remove blocking on coolant thermostat | Check coolant thermostat for damage; replace if necessary.
17 | Install coolant thermostat | Engine 900, 902, 904, 906, 924
Engine 926 | |||
18 | Engine cooling system - check fluid level, adjust to correct level. Inspect anticorrosion/antifreeze protection, adjust to correct concentration | Engine 900.915/916, 902.923/924/935, 904.927/928, 906.935/955
Engine 900.920/921, 904.952/953, 924.916/923/ 931, 926.969 |
