Remove intake manifold (1)

 Remove intake manifold complete with intake connection, intake air pipes and fuel rail.

Remove cylinder head covers (4)

Remove oil pump (5) for cylinder shutoff (CSO)

Remove front cover on right

Position piston of cylinder 1 to 30° after ignition TDC

Crank engine at crankshaft in direction of rotation of engine until 30° marking on belt pulley/vibration damper is aligned with marking on timing case cover. The marking (A) of the camshaft bearing cap (7) must be aligned with the marking (B) of the camshaft (11).

 Engine must not be cranked back.

Install camshaft adjuster (9)

 Mark camshaft adjusters and timing chain to each other with colored dots.

 If the camshaft of the left cylinder head is replaced, the camshaft and rocker arm bearing bridge must also be replaced.

 Oil the bearing surfaces!

 Installation: Center cylinder shutoff valves on camshaft bearing caps so as to ensure a proper seal to the cylinder head cover.

 Fit timing chain onto camshaft adjuster. Colored dots at camshaft adjuster and timing chain must be aligned. Take off retaining clamp.
