Removing

Remove cylinder head covers

Remove CSO oil pump

Remove front cover on right

Turn engine to 30° after ignition TDC at cylinder 1.

 Crank engine at crankshaft in direction of rotation of engine until 30° marking on belt pulley/vibration damper is aligned with marking on timing case cover.

 Engine must not be cranked back.

Loosen camshaft adjuster (4) bolt (8) on the left

 Before loosening bolt (8) attach retaining clamp (7) on the camshaft adjuster (4) on the left. To loosen the bolt mount the holding device (5) on the left cylinder head. The holding device (5) can only be mounted for a camshaft in the basic position. Marking (A) of camshaft bearing cap (2) must be aligned with marking (B) on camshaft (3).

Loosen camshaft adjuster (6) bolt (8) on the right

 Before loosening bolt (8) attach retaining clamp (7) on the camshaft adjuster (6) on the right. To loosen the bolt (8) mount the holding device (5) on the right cylinder head. The holding device (5) can only be mounted for a camshaft in the basic position. Marking (A) of camshaft bearing cap (2) must be aligned with marking (B) on camshaft (3).

Remove chain tensioner

Remove pin for the slide rail on the right and left cylinder head

 On remove the pin at intake side.

Remove camshaft adjuster (6) on the right

 Mark camshaft adjusters and timing chain to each other with colored dots. Lift timing chain from the camshaft adjuster.

Remove camshaft adjuster (4) at the left

 Mark camshaft adjusters and timing chain to each other with colored dots. Lift timing chain from the camshaft adjuster.



Install

Install camshaft adjuster (6) on the right

Fit timing chain onto camshaft adjuster. Colored dots at camshaft adjuster and timing chain must be aligned. Remove retaining clamp (7).

Install camshaft adjuster (4) at the left

 Fit timing chain onto camshaft adjuster. Colored dots at camshaft adjuster and timing chain must be aligned. Remove retaining clamp (7).

Remove left and right holding devices (5) on the cylinder head



 Do not mix up pins.

Install chain tensioner
