Remove right secondary chain drive timing chain.

Remove both camshafts at cylinder head (1).

Loosen cylinder head bolts(2) in stages in the reverse order of the tightening procedure and remove.

 Installation: Replace cylinder head bolts (2).

Remove cylinder head (1) from crankcase.

 Installation: Fit a new cylinder head gasket on the crankcase. Pay attention to the pilot bushing for fixing the cylinder head (1) in place.

Change engine oil and oil filter element.



Clean

Clean sealing surfaces on cylinder head (1) and on crankcase.

Blow out threaded holes of the cylinder head bolts(2) in the crankcase with compressed air and clean away engine oil and coolant.



Check

Check sealing surfaces at cylinder head (1) and crankcase for cracks and unevennesses and replace if necessary.


Do not rework cylinder head (1) and crankcase (surface grinding).
The permissible machining tolerances will be exceeded otherwise.

 A possible distortion of cylinder head (1) in longitudinal or transverse direction is offset again during reassembly by tightening cylinder head bolts (2).

Install in the reverse order.

 Warning

Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running.

Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Perform engine test run and check engine and fuel system for leak tightness.
