Remove/install

Danger!

Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform.

Align vehicle between the columns of the lifting platform and position the four support plates at the lifting platform support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.

Risk of explosion caused by escaping oxyhydrogen gas. Risk of injury caused by caustic burns to eyes, skin and mucous membranes from battery electrolyte (contains diluted sulfuric acid) or metal spatter due to short circuit. Risk of burn injuries caused by short circuit. Risk of poisoning caused by swallowing battery electrolyte (contains diluted sulfuric acid) or absorption of lead over the skin or orifices

No fire, sparks, open flames or smoking.

Wear acid-resistant gloves and clothing and safety glasses with side guards.

Do not place any conductive objects on the battery and avoid any short circuit from battery positive to ground.

Only fill liquid battery electrolyte (diluted sulfuric acid) into suitable and appropriately marked containers.

Open engine hood and raise to vertical position

Remove cover of right fuse box (F1/1)

 Check seal of the cover for damage, install new cover if necessary.

Unlock and disconnect electrical connectors (1, 2, 3) on CDI control unit (N3/9)

 The numbering of the electrical connectors (1, 2, 3) marks the order of removal.

Disconnect electrical connector (4) at the front right fuse and relay module (K40/7)

Remove cable duct cover (5) and disconnect the right major assemblies compartment electronic ground (W16/6) at the right suspension strut tower



Detach weatherstrip (6) in the region of the cable duct (7) and open the cable duct (7)

Open cable tie on bulkhead and place engine wiring harness (8) on engine

Disconnect electrical connector from ABC suction restrictor valve (Y86/1)

For Active Body Control (ABC), code 487a

Disconnect refrigerant compressor connector (A9x1)

Remove bottom sections of soundproofing

Remove heat shield (10) and detach electrical connector at transmission

 Unhook electrical feed line from retaining clip (11) at transmission.

Remove heat shield (12) and open up cover (13)

Disconnect electrical feed lines in the cable connector and disconnect fuse box for circuit 30 and 61 (X4/10)



Disconnect ground line (14) from propeller shaft tunnel



Install in the reverse order

Read out fault memory



Connect STAR DIAGNOSIS and read out fault memory
