Air conditioning - checking oil level in refrigerant compressor

Testing

Danger!

Risk of explosion from welding or soldering work on closed air conditioning system. Risk of poisoning. Inhaling overheated refrigerant vapors may be toxic. Risk of injury from skin and eye contact with liquid refrigerant.

Do not carry out any welding work on the closed air conditioning system or in the surrounding area. No smoking or open flames. Wear eye protection and protective gloves. Work only in well ventilated areas. Carry out repair work on the air conditioning system circuit only after the system has been discharged.

Allow engine to run and switch on the air conditioning

Switch off air conditioning system and engine after 5 minutes

After a waiting period of 5 minutes check the oil level through the inspection window (2) of the refrigerant

compressor (1)

 The oil is correct when the oil level in the inspection window (2) is in the high range.

 If the oil level is too low, check the refrigerant compressor (1) for signs of an external leakage and rectify if necessary:



Connect extraction, reconditioning and filling unit

 Refer to operating instructions for extraction, preparation, and filling device.



Close shutoff valve on intake side (6)

(turn in)

Turn in shutoff valve on thrust side (5) for approx.2 to 5 turns of the thread

 Turn in shutoff valve on thrust side (5) only far enough until the pressure can be read off the pressure gauge for the intake, preparation and charging devices.

Allow engine to run and switch on the air conditioning

 This causes the remaining refrigerant to be pressed into the system over the open thrust side.

Switch off engine when the cutoff pressure of 25.5  0.5 bar is reached

Close shutoff valve on pressure side (5) (turn in)

Extract residual refrigerant from refrigerant compressor (1)

 Open valves of the extraction, reconditioning and filling unit.

Open the filler screw (3)

Top up until oil quantity is correct

 The oil for the refrigerant compressor is hygroscopic (moisture absorbing). Seal the oil reservoir again immediately and fill the measured oil quantity immediately into the refrigerant compressor.

 Use oils which comply with the Specifications for Operating Fluids only.



Fit filler screw (3) with new seal



Evacuate refrigerant compressor (1)

 Evacuate refrigerant compressor (1) up to the maximum attainable vacuum, but for at least 30 minutes.

Close intake, preparation and charging device valves

Open both shutoff valves (5, 6)

 Fit protective caps on shutoff valve (5,6) again.

Remove intake, processing and charging devices
