General considerations
1 | Check general conditions of the vehicle | The procedures mentioned in this document can also be applied to vehicles out of service by periods shorter than 180 days.
2 | Protect the peripheral components of the vehicle | Chassis that is exposed to the weather conditions requires additional cares, because the action of sun, rain, wind, temperature changes, among others, interferes with its components.
Protect the steering wheel, instrument panel, electric components, pedals, wiring harness, terminals, connectors, podest in general. The protective covers must resist to weather conditions, feature a protective factor against ultraviolet rays (UV), and offer high durability.
3 | Wash and spray with wax | Protect the air intake to the engine, avoid the entrance of water in the intake air system, remove the tools box and put it in an appropriate and identified place. Protect the plate the battery ensuring that it is moisture free
4 | Lubricate with grease under pressure | The vehicle should be properly lubricated in all lubrication points/lubricating nipples.
5 | Identify and monitor the vehicle | All vehicles out of service should be properly identified and monitored. The vehicles should not be put in operation before the reactivation procedures being performed.
6 | Remove engine pulleys and belts | Remove the drive belts of the water pump, alternator, and other components, to prevent moisture accumulation and oxidation between the belts and the grooves of pulleys.
7 | Protect starter and alternators | Cable terminals must be protected with a slight layer of anti-oxidation grease. Try to cover as much as possible all wiring to prevent the action of UV rays and rain water.
8 | Protect the air filter | Seal with plastic cover the air entrance in the filter housing to prevent the moisture entrance. For vehicles that are already in operation, replace the main and secondary elements with new ones. Used filters that are out of use for a long period of time can be damaged when they are put in operation again due to impurity previously retained.
9 | Protect air and water coolers
10 | Calibrate tires | Increase the tire inflation pressure in 2 bar above the recommended pressure. Store in accordance with the tire manufacturer instructions.
Avoid the contact of the tires with oil or any other chemical product that can damage the rubber.
11 | Clean the fuel tank | Supply the tank with diesel oil and mix the additive A 550. It is recommended to run the engine for a period of approximately 15 minutes.
Identify/write down the date of the supplied additive A550.
Drain the complete supply system, since the provisional tank and remove the fuel filter, drain the engine fuel ducts.
12 | Check all oil levels | Check oil level of drive axles, manual transmission, automatic transmission, retarder, and steering box. Supply as required.
13 | Drain the engine oil and replace the oil filter strainer | For “brand new” vehicles, perform the same procedure, but it is not necessary to replace the oil filter strainer.
For vehicles that are already in operation, remove the engine oil filter and replace the strainer before running the engine.
Run the engine off load for some minutes, ensuring the oil reaches all inner points of the engine.
14 | Supply AdBlue reservoir | On vehicles with Liquid Only system:
| |||
Supply AdBlue reservoir to prevent the crystallization.
15 | Drain the coolant | For vehicles that will be out of service in regions with temperatures below 0°C, it is recommended to drain the coolant.
These fluids must be discarded in accordance with the current local legislation.
16 | Lubricate the charge air system
On turbocharged engine, remove the air intake neck and the exhaust pipe of the turbocharger. Spray a thin layer of lubricant oil on the turbocharger rotors and on the engine brake system, and re-install the air intake necks.
17 | Protect the air intake system | Seal the air intake neck in the filter housing with resistant plastic and adhesive tape. Also seal major assemblies ventilation (engine, transmissions, and axles).
18 | Inspect the exhaust pipe | Check the exhaust pipe for leakage and apply a thin layer of lubricant oil on the exhaust hose.
Seal the exhaust gas exit neck with resistant plastic and adhesive tape.
19 | Turn off the main switch (if equipped), and disconnect the ground line of the batteries | To ensure that the cleaning process of the AdBlue line is performed:
| |||
Wait 5 minutes after turning off the engine to disconnect the ground line of the battery.
20 | Lubricate the brake and its peripheral components | It is recommended to apply a thin layer of anti-seize on the brake disks at the time of putting the vehicle out of service.
21 | Protect the joints | It is necessary to protect the cylinder rods of the joints from possible damages or accidents, lubricate them with grease for joints, and then cover them with leather or thick canvas. |
