In order to guarantee a maximum service of batteries and to avoid consequential damage, the batteries should be cared for as per the specification.
Use case/charge specification
Non-operational time not more than 6 weeks
Non-operational time max. 12 weeks
Non-operational time > 12 weeks (vehicles in storage/stock)
Vehicles in showrooms
12 V battery
12 V starter battery connected Before non-operational time and then every 4 weeks: Charging with charger (ignition off) Charging: WS54.00-P-0037BNote Charging current at end < 5 A
12 V starter battery connected For vehicles with networking technology Star 2.3 (as of model 213) Battery disconnect switch opened via the multimedia system (see operator's manual "rest mode")1 Before non-operational time and then every 12 weeks: Charging with charger (ignition off) Charging: WS54.00-P-0037BNote Charging current at end < 5 A
12 V battery disconnected from on-board electrical system2 Exception: Electric vehicles and hybrid vehicles (code ME05 and code ME06), model 177 and model 247. The 12 V battery must not be disconnected on these vehicles. These stock vehicles must be processed after "not more than 12 weeks" Charge before non-operational time and then every 6 months with connected 12 V battery: Charging with charger (ignition off) Charging: WS54.00-P-0037BNote Charging current at end < 5 A
12 volt charger permanently connected WS54.00-P-0037BNote
48 V battery
No external charging 48 V starter battery is internally supported by the 12 V on-board electrical system
No external charging 48 V battery is internally supported by the 12 V on-board electrical system
No external charging
No external charging 48 V battery is internally supported by the 12 V on-board electrical system
High-voltage battery (for plug-in hybrid or electric vehicles)
Before non-operational time: If the charge level (SOC) of the high-voltage battery is < 30 %, the high-voltage battery must be charged to an SOC value of approx. 50 %
Before non-operational time: If the charge level (SOC) of the high-voltage battery is < 30 %, the high-voltage battery must be charged to an SOC value of approx. 50 %
Before non-operational time and then every 6 months: If the charge level (SOC) of the high-voltage battery is < 30 %, the high-voltage battery must be charged to an SOC value of approx. 50 %
Before non-operational time and every 2 months: If the charge level (SOC) of the high-voltage battery is < 30 %, the high-voltage battery must be charged to an SOC value of approx. 50 %
The non-operational time must be deducted from ASSYST manually because the service computer cannot operate without voltage.
In the case of new vehicles, make sure that transport mode is activated, i.e.until the delivery inspection immediately prior to handover to the customer.
Transport mode can be reactivated (after service in the showroom) up to 350 km. Before activation, the vehicle with connected 12 volt battery must be charged. Exceptions hereto are vehicles of model 453. Here, activation is no longer possible.
