As from March 2019, a new gas cylinder unit with a capacity of 580 l is introduced on the Econic NGT. The Actros NGT contains an identical gas cylinder unit.
In the gas cylinder units mentioned here, a safety-related change has been introduced with regard to working on the gas system. Due to the length of the gas cylinders, a second pressure unloading valve (3) is installed in each gas cylinder. It should be noted here that the gas lines (2) routed to the pressure unloading valves (3) will have the full gas pressure of the relative gas cylinder applied to them even after the gas shutoff valves (1) have been closed. The usual emptying of the gas lines through idling down to engine off does not empty the gas lines (2) here either. Before unfastening a gas line (2) the gas cylinder that belongs to this gas line (2) must first be emptied.
This as-built configuration must always be observed when removing gas cylinders, working on gas lines (2), pressure relief valves (3) and gas shutoff valves (1).
The gas cylinder unit with code K5J (NGT tank system 570 l) is also affected. The gas cylinders located perpendicular behind the cab also have a second pressure relief valve (3) installed.
This service information is safety relevant, and therefore all employees that are involved in working on gaseous fuel vehicles must be notified of it.
The relevant documents in the WIS are being updated.
