ENGINE 602.981 in MODEL 408.101 /216
Notes on changes
The particulate emission limit value for engine 602 was previously limited by a transitional ruling of the legislative authorities to 0.25 g/kWh (EURO IIA). To reduce this limit value to the generally required 0.15 g/kWh (EURO II-Standard) a power reduction from 90 kW (122 PS) to 85 kW (115 PS) was required.
Furthermore the more stringent emission limit values could only be achieved through various technical measures on the engine.
The technical modifications resulting from conversion to EURO II-Standard are listed below:
Component designation | EURO IIA | EURO II | Modification |
Engine control unit MSA 25 | A017 545 94 32 A023 545 10 32 | A025 545 50 32 | Software and performance map adaptation to EURO II emission standard |
Injection pump | A602 070 85 01 | A602 070 87 01 | Increased cam profile of camplate |
Nozzle holder | A000 010 48 51 | A000 010 66 51 | Conical injection holes |
Needle movement sensor | A000 010 47 51 | A000 010 67 51 | Old: cylindrical |
Nozzle disks (sealing rings) | A601 017 13 60 (included in nozzle set: | A601 017 15 60 (included in nozzle set: | Increased nozzle distance, nozzle disk thickness 1 mm (old: 1.5 mm) |
Exhaust gas turbocharger | A602 096 02 99 | A602 096 12 99 | Smaller turbine housing |

To avoid malfunctions the a.m. components of both designs must not under any circumstances be interchanged.
Please consult Unimog update no. 07.98 for further technical details of engine.
Series fitting of EURO II engine as of engine no. 045 122 except engine nos. 045 361 to 045 370 (EURO IIA). Except EURO II: engine 044 336
Test data for exhaust test is identical to that of the EURO IIA engine.
Test data:
Idle speed: 620 to 850 rpm
maximum rpm (no load): 3900 to 4600 rpm
Opacity value (sensor 1): 1.3
Please note that only this test data is to be used for carrying out exhaust test. For technical measurement reasons this deviates from test values found in workshop literature.
