Service Information: Retrofits/conversions

If retrofits or modifications are to be carried out on vehicles, a number of points must be observed that are briefly summarized below and described in greater detail at the appropriate point.

Check and approve before implementing retrofits/conversions

Retrofits/modifications on truck model series 963, 964, 967 and 956 have an effect for many of the sales codes on the electronic networking of the vehicle and the parameterization of the ECU modules. Therefore, for product liability reasons, modifications/retrofits must undergo a complete check to ensure that they perform correctly in the vehicle. Redocumentation for retrofit or modification measures

If the equipment of a vehicle is changed at a later stage or the vehicle is modified significantly, this must be documented accordingly in the vehicle documentation system (VeDoc). This is required for warranty and goodwill claims. Where applicable, in warranty or goodwill cases in which any retrofit or modification is unable to be traced back via VeDoc, this claim may be rejected. Entry of performed measures on body in VeDoc

Body manufacturers can ask a Mercedes-Benz Service Partner to document an installation, removal, modification or attachment to a Mercedes-Benz truck. Documentation is provided in the FO texts in VeDoc and must be in accordance with the corresponding VeDoc guidelines. More detailed information on this is available in: SI00.00-W-0123A.

Retrofitting of driver assistance and driving safety systems

The workshop is unable to undertake modifications, retrofits or to remove specific driving safety systems for reasons of product liability and the lack of the technical facilities to do so. More detailed information on this is available in: SI54.00-W-0006A.
