Headlamp range control
General
Headlamp range control is installed as an item of passive safety equipment to protect other road users from glare. It enables the headlamp range to be adjusted to match the vehicle's load condition. Headlamp range control is realized using actuator motors located in the front lamp units.
On vehicles with air suspension, the vehicle level and therefore the headlamp range are automatically adapted to the vehicle load condition.

Headlamp range control
Manual headlamp range control (halogen headlamps) is operated using the headlamp range adjuster.
The automatic headlamp range control (LED headlamps) is regulated to match the vehicle level. Level sensors on the wheel suspensions record the vehicle level.
To adjust the incline angle of the headlamp units, actuator motors in the front lamp units are actuated.
At a constant vehicle speed the automatic headlamp range control operates in static mode with a low adjustment speed. When the vehicle is accelerated, the dynamic mode is activated and the reaction time of the automatic headlamp range control is significantly reduced. Dynamic mode is activated depending on the speed change and additional signals such as the brake pedal and accelerator pedal position.
When the vehicle is stationary, automatic headlamp range control is carried out in dynamic mode.
