General
The fuel tank serves to store the fuel.
The fuel tank is made of 7-layer plastic and is divided into two fuel chambers due to its U-shaped recess.
The fuel feed module is located in the right fuel tank chamber. It consists of a housing with an integrated suction jet pump, the fuel pump and the right-hand fuel tank fuel level indicator fill level sensor.
The housing of the fuel feed module serves as a swirl pot.
While cornering with a low level of fuel in the fuel tank, it prevents the fuel pump from drawing in air. A fuel strainer is installed at the bottom as a coarse filter for the fuel pump feed.
In the left fuel tank chamber, you will find the closing plate with connection fittings, a suction jet pump and the left-hand fuel tank fuel level indicator fill level sensor.
Location
The fuel tank is usually located above the rear axle or behind the rear seats.
Function
The fuel is held in the fuel tank.
The fuel pump draws the fuel from the fuel feed module through a fuel strainer. The fuel pump then pumps the suctioned fuel through the fuel filter to the high-pressure pump.
The leak fuel from the fuel injectors, lubricating fuel from the high-pressure pump, and the return fuel from the pressure regulator valve and high-pressure pump flow through the fuel return line back to the fuel tank. Here, the returned fuel supplies both suction jet pumps.
When the fill level of the fuel tank is low, the swirl pot is also filled with fuel from the fuel tank by the suction jet pump in the fuel feed module.
The suction jet pump in the left fuel tank chamber guarantees that the left fuel tank chamber is emptied.
