Function
Monitoring and controlling the set level
1 The two position sensors (B52 and B53) at the driven axle, and the single position sensor (B51) at the front axle on vehicles equipped with full air suspension, constantly monitor the specified distance between the frame and axle.
2 The control unit (A14.1/A14.2) evaluates the signals from the position sensors. If the control unit detects that the vehicle level has deviated from the specified level, it initiates an automatic control procedure. The control unit actuates the NR/ENR valve block (Y27/Y28) at the driven axle and/or the NR/ENR solenoid valve (Y26) at the front axle. The compressed air is increased or decreased at the appropriate air bellows until the specified vehicle level is restored.
If the vehicle is stationary the valve block or the solenoid valve is actuated immediately. There is a delay of approximately 60 seconds if the vehicle is moving.
The control unit first uses the ABS electronics to determine the difference in speed between the front wheels. This prevents the control unit initiating a control procedure while the vehicle is cornering.
If the control unit initiates a control procedure when the vehicle is stationary, this procedure is completed even if the driver moves the vehicle.
All automatically initiated control procedures are interrupted, however, if the driver applies the service brake.
