Mercedes me connect services, activation and management

Mercedes me connect is activated via a Mercedes-Benz partner. In the process, the account is enabled and the vehicle is linked to Mercedes  me connect. All services can be activated and deactivated via the customer portal at any time.

Mercedes me connect basic services

The Mercedes-Benz Customer Center is available around the clock for roadside assistance, making appointments or similar. Contact is made at the press of a button. The buttons for the roadside assistance call and Info call are installed in the overhead control panel. Calling the Mercedes-Benz customer center is also possible using COMAND Online.

All important vehicle data is conveniently transferred for optimum support via an operational mobile phone. To do this, the mobile phone must be connected to COMAND Online via the Bluetooth® interface.

Requirements on the equipment side

A Bluetooth-compatible mobile phone that supports the MAP profile (Message Access Profile) for sending SMS messages or

if equipped with fixed installation/SAP telephony, a SIM card or a suitable mobile phone

Various data is sent:

Vehicle identification number

Total distance

Vehicle position

Service code (only if maintenance required)

Demand-driven service display

To optimally support required vehicle maintenance, a service appointment can be arranged directly with the Mercedes-Benz customer center. If a maintenance message appears in the instrument cluster, a message also appears in the COMAND display. This actively points out the service requirement and enables direct contact with the Mercedes-Benz Customer Center.

Mercedes-Benz Contact Accident Aid

The Mercedes-Benz Contact Accident Aid supplements the Mercedes-Benz emergency call system. If an emergency call to the Mercedes-Benz Emergency Call Center was triggered following an accident, a voice connection to an operator is established. Depending on the accident situation, the service receptionist may recommend forwarding the call to Mercedes-Benz Contact Accident Aid. Towing of the vehicle to a Mercedes-Benz Service Support Point can thereby be initiated.

Mercedes-Benz emergency call system

Only trigger an emergency call to rescue persons. Do not trigger an emergency call in case of a breakdown or similar problem. The Mercedes-Benz emergency call system can help to significantly reduce the time period between the time of the accident and the arrival of the rescue services at the accident site. It supports position finding in case of an accident site that is difficult to see. The emergency call can be triggered automatically or manually. If the emergency call was triggered, it is sent to the private Mercedes-Benz emergency call number that is available for all of Europe. At the same time, the position data of the vehicle is transmitted via SMS and DTMF to the Mercedes-Benz Emergency Call Center. The Mercedes-Benz Emergency Call Center transmits the data corresponding to the vehicle's position to one of the public European emergency call centers. The call can be made in the respective national language in nearly all countries. Measures for rescuing, recovering or towing to a Mercedes-Benz Service Support Point can therefore be initiated within a short period of time.

Automatic emergency call

Requirement: The ignition is switched on.

If restraint systems were activated after an accident, the Mercedes-Benz Emergency Call System can automatically dial the private Mercedes-Benz emergency call number that is available for all of Europe. Restraint systems are e.g. airbag or emergency tensioning retractor. The system can establish a voice connection between the vehicle occupants and the Mercedes-Benz Emergency Call Center. At the same time the voice connection is established, the accident data is transmitted via SMS and DTMF to the Mercedes-Benz Emergency Call Center. The accident data includes GPS positioning data to an accuracy of one meter at the time of the trigger and the vehicle model involved in the accident.

Mercedes me connect Remote Online

In vehicles with Remote Online, various app services can also be enabled. These app services allow the customer to use his terminals (e.g. Smartphone, tablet or PC) to transmit information and operating requests to the vehicle via the Service Center and receive up-to-date vehicle data that has been prepared by the app. For example, the following app service are available:

Geographical vehicle monitoring: The customer is informed on-line as soon as his vehicle leaves or reaches an area marked by the customer.

Vehicle locating: The customer is informed online of the current vehicle location by transferring geo-coordinates; the activation of this function is indicated in the vehicle by an icon on the Audio/COMAND display.

Vehicle location: The customer can locate the vehicle within an area of 1.5 km using his smartphone; this makes it easier to find the vehicle, e.g. in large parking lots or in unfamiliar cities.

Vehicle status remote query: vehicle data such as the status of the doors and the fuel level can be retrieved on-line.

Remote vehicle locking and unlocking: The vehicle can be unlocked and locked using the Mercedes me connect Remote Online app.

Stationary heater programming: The stationary heater can be preprogrammed (started) prior to a scheduled departure using the Mercedes me connect Remote Online app.

Programming of the charge settings and pre-entry climate control via smartphone (only for Zero Emission Vehicles (ZEV) and plug-in hybrids): Pre-entry climate control via smartphone offers increased air-conditioning comfort before entering the vehicle interior. Auxiliary climate control can be started at departure time using, for example, the Mercedes me connect Pre-entry climate control service. The system here includes: automatic climate control, heating of outside mirrors and rear windows as well as options such as seat heater and seat climate control.

Live Traffic Information service

With the Live Traffic Information service, current and precise traffic information is determined, whereby a dynamic destination-oriented navigation with more exact arrival times is achieved.

Integration of smartphones (model 117 as of 01.12.2015)

On vehicles with code 516 (Audio 5 USB), the audio equipment enables the integration of smartphones. In order to ensure that the content is prepared in a manner suitable for the vehicle, only Smartphone apps that have been developed for the following integration standards are supported:

CarPlay (Apple)

MirrorLink (Car Connectivity Consortium)

To be able to use the smartphone applications, the smartphone must be connected to USB connector 2 (24) of the multimedia connection unit, and the integration standard selected via the telephone menu. If automatic connection has been selected under "Options" in the telephone menu, activation via the menu is not possible.

MirrorLink 1.1 (and higher) is supported. MirrorLink 1.0 is not supported.

With the MirrorLink integration standard, a Bluetooth® connection between the Smartphone and the audio equipment is required as well as the connection via USB (Universal Serial Bus) (the connection is established automatically).

If a smartphone is connected and the CarPlay integration standard has been activated, the audio equipment is brought into a special operating mode ("integration mode") in which not all functions of the audio equipment can be used. The following audio equipment functions are not available if CarPlay is activated:

Media player

Navigation (equipment dependent)

Voice control system (equipment dependent)

Telephony

The radio (AM and FM) functions, vehicle settings and safety-relevant functions, such as   the emergency call function (with code 348 (Emergency call/assistance system), with code 350 (Emergency call system Ecall Europe) or with code 351 (Emergency call system (HERMES))) or breakdown assistance (with code 348 (Emergency call/assistance system) or with code 06U (Mercedes me connect basic services), with code 360 (HERMES  UMTS) or with code 362 (HERMES LTE)), can still be used in any case.

With MirrorLink, there are the following usage restrictions for the telephony: Calls can only be made by way of the connected smartphone. Telephony with code 379 (Telephone module with Bluetooth® (SAP)) is not possible. If an integration standard is activated, the audio equipment supports smartphone apps in the following manner:

Volume adaptation for all audio signals

Forwarding of control signals (e. g. from audio equipment buttons, from the Audio/COMAND control panel, pressing and holding of the voice control system button (S111s4), pressing the Accept/terminate phone call button (S111s3) from the right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111))

Forwarding of signals from the hands-free system microphone (B25/12) (e.g.  for voice control or telephony)

Audio outputs (e. g. for voice control or telephony) over the speaker system or forwarding of signals to the sound system amplifier control unit (N40/3) (with code 810 (Sound system))

Muting of the radio reception in the audio equipment (mute function), e.g.  with Smartphone telephony

Forwarding of position data (e.g.  GPS signals (global navigation system), gyro sensor signals, wheel speed signals)

Forwarding of generated video signals from the smartphone to the Audio/COMAND display

Forwarding of status information for displaying in the instrument cluster

The smartphone applications themselves are not shown in the instrument cluster.

CartoX-Communication NTG5.5 (model 213, 217, 222, 238, 257)

Vehicles participating in CartoXCommunication automatically report recognized hazard situations to the service center, and immediately receive information about hazard situations in the region they are currently traveling in. The reports received from the service center are indicated visually and acoustically in the vehicle.

Hazard situations are identified in the vehicle from sensor data, switch states and similar vehicle data, and are reported to the service center together with positioning information. The following hazard situations are automatically detected and reported in CartoXCommunication:

Broken-down vehicles (breakdown management active)

Accidents (emergency call or accident management active)

Vehicles with their hazard warning lights switched on (hazard warning system active)

Weather hazards:

Heavy rain (highest wiper speed)

Fog (rear fog lamp)

Slippery road (anti-lock braking system)

Information about moving roadworks is provided for CartoXCommunication by an external server.

Users of Car-to-X-Communication can also send a general hazard warning to the service center manually. When the head unit display is showing the navigation map, swiping left or right on the touchpad or moving the controller left or right brings up a menu on the display which allows the user to select "Report hazard" and then "General hazard". When the report has been sent, the display shows: "Thank you for your assistance in helping to prevent accidents!".
