As of axle end no. 2247455 the rear axles, with axle BM. 740.89, 748.26/27 and ring gear-Ø 300 mm, are installed with an improved safety concept on the threaded ring of the through-drive's drive shaft.

Previous version (B)

In the previous version (B) the threaded ring (5) was locked using a lock washer (7) and a bolt (6) on the through-drive cover (8). Additional locking is provided with the Loctite 574 sealant on the thread of the threaded ring, which not only acts as a seal, but also has a bonding or locking effect.

Modified version (A)

The modified version (A) consists of a new through-drive cover (4), a new threaded ring (3), an additional safety washer (2) and a jam nut (1).

The jam nut (1) prevents the threaded ring (3) from detaching in an uncontrolled manner. To seal the threaded ring, a sealant with pure sealing properties is used (see Repair materials).

The safety washer (2) serves to prevent the jam nut (1) turning on the threaded ring (3) when it is tightened, and therefore adjusting the set axial play for the drive shaft's through-drive. The new through-drive cover (4) has been adapted in the area of the threaded ring (3) to match the improved locking concept.

 A parts kit was created for the change of the previous version (B) to the modified version (A).

The bearing outer race (9) and the bushing for the interaxle differential lock must be removed from the previous through-drive cover (8) and installed into the new through-drive cover (4) again.

If in the previous version (B) the threaded ring (5) or the through-drive cover (8) is removed or the through-drive disassembled, then a conversion must be made to the modified version (A).

 Through this change another rear-axle version has been installed in the vehicle. To ensure that an accurate parts supply can be maintained, this modification must be documented in the vehicle data card in the VeDoc system.
