Danger ! | Risk of injury. Skin or eye injuries may result when handling hot or glowing objects. | Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses, if necessary.
Danger ! | Risk of injury caused by scraping or cutting body parts on sharp vehicle parts | Always wear protective gloves when working on or near sharp and non-deburred vehicle parts.
Danger ! | Risk of injury caused by pinching or crushing when working on springs or spring bodies that are under tension | Use only approved tensioning devices; additionally screen off hazardous area if necessary. Check special tools for damage and proper operation (visual inspection). Wear protective gloves.
| Notes on self-locking nuts and bolts | ||
| Remove | ||
1 | Remove side paneling or side heat shield from exhaust aftertreatment unit
2 | Remove mounting rails (2)
3 | Remove maintenance flap (1) | The quick-release couplings (4) remain under tension.
4 | Remove all four quick-release couplings (4) | To do so, drill spot welds to then detach the quick-release couplings (4) using hammer and chisel from the maintenance flap (1).
5 | Grind off seat (5) of quick-release couplings (4)
| Install | ||
6 | Position maintenance flap (1) onto exhaust aftertreatment unit
7.1 | Insert tensioning straps (6) together with holding device (7) into shackles (8) | For installation with holding device (7)
The holding device (7) also acts as an adjusting gauge for the spring tensioning force. It is included in the scope of supply for the tensioning straps (6) and is generally preassembled to make installation easier.
7.2 | Install tensioning straps (6) | For installation without holding device (7)
The correct tensioning force for the springs is reached by adjusting dimension (A) between the pins (6.2) by turning the bolt 6.1.
8 | Screw in bolts (6.1) until the holding device (7) can be picked up by the pins (6.2) | Only for installation with holding device (7).
If the maintenance flap (1) is to be opened again here:
9 | Install mounting rails (2)
10 | Attach side paneling or side heat shield to exhaust aftertreatment unit |
