Danger! | Risk of accident caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running | Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
1 | Raise front axle and lower onto jack stands | The wheels must turn freely.
2 | Remove screw plug with retaining chain from test connection (arrow) | Detach retaining chain from test connection (arrow) completely so that the test hose can open the check valve.
3 | Attach pressure gauge and test hose
| |||
4 | Start engine and run at high idle speed | Oil temperature in steering system
5 | Turn steering to left and right lock | When correctly adjusted, there is a pressure drop at each lock position (cut-off pressure). If the values are not attained:
Adjust hydraulic limiter
6 | Turn off engine | ||
Adjust | |||
7 | Remove locking plate of limiter adjusting screws (1, 2)
8 | Screw left limiter adjusting screw (2) all the way in and then unscrew by 2 to 3 turns | The limiter adjustment screws (1, 2) are under pressure. For safety reasons the limiter adjusting screws (1, 2) must not be unscrewed from the steering housing more than 2 to 3 turns when the engine is running.
Screw in the left limiter adjusting screw (2) until the head of the left limiter adjusting screw (2) abuts the steering gear housing.
9 | Start engine and run at high idle speed | Oil temperature in the steering system approx. 50 °C.
10 | Turn steering to left lock
11 | Screw the left limiter adjusting screw (2) in slowly until the adjusting pressure is reached | Screw in the left limiter adjusting screw (2) until the pressure drops due to the servo effect setting in
12 | Read off test pressure on pressure gauge
| |||
If the values are not attained:
Remove / install hydraulic limiter
13 | Adjust right limiter adjusting screw (1) for right wheel lock in the same way as for left wheel lock | Perform steps 8 to 12.
14 | Turn off engine | ||
15 | Detach pressure gauge and test hose
| |||
16 | Install locking plate of limiter adjusting screws (1, 2)
17 | Attach screw plug with retaining chain to the test connection (arrow)
18 | Conduct a road test | Check the overall steering behavior of the vehicle. |
