1 | Remove axle drive (9) from rear axle. | ||
2 | Install axle drive (9) on support arm for axles on assembly stand. | ||

3 | Remove interwheel differential lock. | ||
4 | Remove lock washers (2) of threaded rings (8, 11). | ||
5 | Unscrew threaded ring (11) by approx. 1/4 turn. | Square drift | |
6 | Attach tensioning strap (12) and round sling (13) to crown gear with differential (6) and hook on lifting device. | Attach tensioning strap (12) and round sling (13), as shown in the picture, to the crown gear with differential (6). In this way, the crown gear with differential (6) is balanced when lifted out. | |
7 | Remove differential bearing cap (4). | ||
8 | Lift crown gear with differential (6) slightly and remove threaded ring (11) with bearing outer race (10). | ||
9 | Lift out crown gear with differential (6) from axle drive (9) and place on a workbench. | ||
10 | Remove tensioning strap (12) and round sling (13) from crown gear with differential (6). | ||
11 | Remove threaded ring (8) from bearing bracket in axle drive (9). | ||
12 | Remove bearing outer race (7) from bearing bracket in axle drive (9). | ||

13 | Insert bearing outer race (7) into bearing bracket in axle drive (9). | ||
14 | Screw in threaded ring (8) by hand into bearing bracket in axle drive (9). | ||
15 | Attach tensioning strap (12) and round sling (13) to crown gear with differential (6) and hook on lifting device. | Attach tensioning strap (12) and round sling (13), as shown in the picture, to the crown gear with differential (6). In this way, the crown gear with differential (6) is balanced when inserted. | |
16 | Insert crown gear with differential (6) into bearing bracket in axle drive (9). | The differential-side tapered roller bearing is mounted via the bearing outer race (7) in the bearing bracket in the axle drive (9). | |
17 | Position bearing outer race (10) on the tapered roller bearing on the crown gear side and lower the crown gear with differential (6) until the bearing outer race (10) makes contact in the bearing seat in the axle drive (9). | ||
18 | Remove tensioning strap (12) and round sling (13) from crown gear with differential (6). | ||
19 | Install differential bearing cap (4) with new screws (3) at the bearing bracket in the axle drive (9) and only tighten screws (3) lightly. | ||
20 | Screw in threaded rings (8, 11) uniformly all the way at the bearing outer races (7, 10). | Square drift | |
21 | Turn crown gear with differential (6) several times by hand and when doing so constantly pound on the crown gear with a plastic mallet. | This releases any tapered roller bearing tensions. | |
22 | Screw in threaded rings (8, 11) uniformly all the way at the bearing outer races (7, 10) again. | Square drift | |
23 | Turn crown gear with differential (6) several times by hand again and when doing so constantly pound on the crown gear with a plastic mallet. | This releases any tapered roller bearing tensions. | |
24 | Adjust gear backlash at crown gear. | ||
