1 Calculate difference dimension.
The calculation is based on the inner dimension of the housing and the height of the differential (measure basic dimension at differential).
The value for the preload of the differential bearing must also be taken into account.
Example:
Housing dimension 199,2 mm
Value for preload + 0.28 mm
Height of differential (without shims) - 188,40 mm
Difference dimension 11,08 mm
2 Determine thickness of thickness of shim.
So that gear backlash is achieved in each case, determine the shims on the ring gear side with lesser thickness, e.g. for the value 11.08 mm:
Ring gear side 5,46 mm
Opposite 5,62 mm
A 1 mm thick shim corresponds to approx. 1.4 mm gear backlash.
Shims are available in thicknesses of 4.9 mm to 6.38 mm in graduations of 0.02 mm each.
